have been most welcome over the past week or so but although remaining dry the outlook is for much cooler weather through next week with the possibility of overnight frost.
I’ve now planted all the potatoes and onions, and sowed a second row of broad beans as well as some beetroot and carrots.
I’ve been doing plenty of hoeing and weeding, and dead-heading the daffodils. Whilst doing that I found a small daffodil Silver Chimes (?) and a mini red tulip almost hidden under the leaves of the taller daffodils.
Weeding round the strawberry plants I noticed a flower hidden away under the glossy new leaves. The twelve plants I had on the bed have now doubled so I think that in the autumn I will dig them all up and replant the best of the newer, smaller ones.
The rose Pretty Lady is covered in new foliage and lots of small flower buds. The hawthorn didn’t flower for years and only done so minimally in the last year or two but this year looks like it may well do a lot better. I don’t mind dandelions when they grow in the grass paths like this one as they are a good flower for bees.
I’ll now be switching my attention to direct sowing flower seeds such as cosmos, pot marigolds, California poppies, love-in-a-mist, sunflowers and nasturtiums. I’ll sow some over the next week or so, then more once these have started appearing.

The weather’s been glorious, hasn’t it? I do wish it would hang around a bit longer but the forecast isn’t looking promising. It sounds like you’re well on top of things on the plot, unlike me, I seem to have lost my mojo since giving up the allotment, I haven’t even got my tomatoes sown yet. Fingers crossed that Pretty Lady puts on as good a show as she did last year, she was stunning.

Jo it has, but it’s anything but nice today. Me too but sadly not by the look of it. I like to think that I am, and I’m sure that you’ll get it back soon and be sowing tomatoes. I sure hope so as it really is such a lovely sight when in full bloom. xx

How lovely to find the tulip and the daffodil and still so perky. From what you say, you may have some good crops, if the weather and soil conditions are kind to you.

Gorgeous little daffodil and the tulip is lovely too, well done for getting it to flower again, they don’t always like to. That rose of yours is phenomenal, really hard working. I think us gardeners could do with a warmer spell of weather setting in. I have windowsills full of things that need to be going outside. Wishing you a good weekend. CJ xx

Goodness,that strawberry flower is early! How lovely to come across hidden blooms. Looking forward to seeing how all the flowers get on. I always leave a few dandelions for the bees.xxx
