On the windowsill, July 2021

All three annual flowers – the cosmos Sonata White, pot marigold Oopsy Daisy and sunflower Music Box are doing really in their 5 in/12.5 cm pots on the windowsill.

The three cosmos Sonata White have been flowering continuously since last month and presently have five flowers showing, with several more buds on the way. Given that the plants are only around 6 in/15 cm tall it’s not surprising that the flowers are small, ranging from less than 1 in/2.5 cm to 2.5 in/6 cm across.

The first pot marigold Oospy Daisy flower appeared over the weekend, and there are two more on the way. The plant is now around 15 in/38 cm tall but thankfully doesn’t look leggy as it has plenty of leaves all the way down the stem.

The sunflower Music Box shows no sign of a flower bud as yet but has grown ten pairs of leaves despite being less than 6 in/15 cm tall.

The tomato Red Robin has grown taller and is now approaching 15 in/38 cm.  It’s lost a couple of the bottom leaves after they’d gone brown and died.  Looking closely at the top leaves and stems I think that some fruit is just starting to form.  I’ll show a photo next month, when hopefully, they’ll be more visible.

Take care, and have a good weekend!

  1. All doing well, the sunflower looks particularly healthy. My tomatoes got off to a very slow start after all the cold weather, so I’m not hoping for much. I’m thinking I might even give them a miss next year. Although I probably won’t, I do love to try a new variety or two. CJ xx

  2. What a pleasure it must be to watch your little ones grow and bloom on your windowsill. The cosmos and pot marigolds flowers are charming. Good luck with the tomato.

    1. Andy thanks. I agree, it is. It’s not really surprising given the weather we’ve had so far this year, and I’m sure you will grow some again. That’s good to know, and you’re most welcome. xx
