the past three mornings which has been most welcome. I cleared all the dead foliage and stems from the asters and sedums then weeded and hand forked all round them, and the daffodils, all along the the top edge next to the roadway.
I’ll be lifting, moving and replanting the perennial cornflowers and sedums soon. In that area I’m going to grow one of the sunflowers Holiday, which as I mentioned recently grows four feet tall and the same across. I was originally only going to grow one of these because of the room they need but now intend to grow three of them.
At the other end of the plot I’ve cleared the dead crocosmia foliage as new growth has started to appear.
This morning I weeded, then hoed, the two areas where I’ll be growing the climbing French beans and tomatoes. I did the same with the strawberry patch.
The weather forecast for the coming week is bright, dry and surprisingly mild so I’ll be making the most of it. Top of the list is to weed then fork over the area where I’ll be growing the onions, and to prune the rose Pretty Lady and the dogwood rose.

From one to four wide Sunflowers, that is a big revision. What is the thinking behind the change? Your plot is looking neat and tidy, ready for the coming growing season. xxxx

P.S. After storms and lots of wet weather, the bent and broken Crocosamia leaves and stalks looked awful, sludgy and a bit useless. I therefore removed all that I could before the true winter weather hit us. It seems a hardy plant so I did not have any qualms about clearing the debris. xx

It’s all looking very neat and tidy out there. I battled with roses, grape vines and ivy this afternoon. And also cleared up some very mushy leaves around the spinach. Still very sticky here at the moment. CJ xx

Nice that you’re able to enjoy being on the plot again. Do you put more than one sunflower seed for each plant? I’ve never grown and wondered about their germination rate.

Nikki it sure is. I’ll be starting these sunflowers off in pots at home. Germination is good, the main problem is seedlings being eaten by slugs and snails. xx
