I spent a welcome couple of hours on the plot yesterday morning mostly pottering. It was dry and windy but the ground a touch too soggy to do much apart from some weeding round the edges.
The yellow crocuses Romance finished flowering several weeks ago since when the leaves have grown from a few inches long to nearly a foot and they now look like a large green porcupine.
It’s good to see that the comfrey and crocosmia are both showing new growth, as are the raspberries (see picture) I replanted and pruned recently.
At home the seed potatoes are doing well and have stubby, dark green chits. I’m hoping that I can start planting these along with the onion sets in a week or so.
This morning it’s dull and raining again, and early tomorrow could see a slight frost as the temperature may dip to 0 C/32 F. Although getting warmer through the week it looks like remaining unsettled with plenty of rain, and windy at times.
Have a good week, and take care!
Your porcupine is very cute. I was delighted to see the new growths you have on the plot.
Our ground has been too soggy and not good for anything much. Two bushes seem to have been overwhelmed. I’m keeping an eye on those.
Like with you, it is very cold by us too.

Menhir thanks. I’m always relieved to see new growth.
How annoying. What a shame, I hope that they do regrow.
It was chilly this morning but calm, dry and sunny. xx

Oh, your crocosmia is appearing? I’ll have to search our plot as I planted a few last year. Love the porcupine 😊

Glad you’ve been able to get some work done on the plot. I need to check my comfrey. I’ve never done the chitting process with potatoes, and had no idea they were supposed to be dark green. Are those the eyes?

Liz thanks, me too. Some people don’t bother to chit them, if the potatoes are left in the dark they’re white and spindly. Yes I just grow one or two chits the one end where the eyes are. xx
