a poem by Brian H. Gent.
The month of March has come at last,
The worst of Winter now has passed,
But, until it’s really Spring,
March will have her final fling.
Rain must fall and winds must blow
Before we sharpen spade and hoe;
Nature needs no hand of man
To help her with her future plan.
Snowdrops bloom in wood and field,
Chill winds never made them yield,
Crocuses in drifts close by
Turn coloured faces to the sky.
Gorse and heather on the moor,
No wonder that our spirits soar,
To see their colourful display
Overcomes the dullest day.
Willows show a hint of green,
Waters still reflect the sheen;
So many signs to bring us cheer,
Now that another Spring is near.
An ideal poem for this time of year Flighty. Very apt at the moment.

Hmmm, no mention of snow there. It’s amazing how different it can be from one year to the next, we were having a heatwave in March last year, yet today we’ve got snow and icy winds.

Jo I thought about replacing the word rain with snow! It’s makes me wonder what the coming months will be like, hopefully different and better than last year. xx

I enjoyed the poem! Much of it pertains to Canada (except the “gorse and heather on the moor”). Can’t wait for flowers …

He missed the snow – but he’s right about the slight haze of green on the willow which is a very welcome sight.

A perfect poem to sum up March. We’ve been lucky to escape the worst of the snow as we are at a low altitude. The hills and mountains still have a good covering and it’s all proving very difficult for farmers. Gorgeous sunshine here this morning but snowflakes falling have rather spoilt the scene. We can only hope some warmth isn’t too far away. WW x

Welly I found a couple with this one being the most optimistic. Thankfully none settled here. It’s all come at the worse possible time for many farmers. Just brighter but still cold here. I do hope so! xx
