Liz – Here is the Golden Spirit smoke tree in my front garden in Lexington, Kentucky.
The photos were taken late afternoon a few days ago, and as you see it’s now dropped all its leaves exposing the bare limbs.
It appears to be pitching towards the west even though that’s where the prevailing, and strongest, winds come from.
As an aside I recently saw an item on the BBC World News about bio-filters using moss to help filter pollutants.
Here is the moss around the base of my tree.
Mike – The sweet chestnut in the local park which I’m following has still got plenty of leaves but they’re now various shades of yellow and brown so are likely to drop soon.
Our thanks to Pat, The Squirrelbasket, for hosting tree following, and if you want to see what it’s all about, and perhaps join in, please have a look at this tree following post.
Have a good weekend, and take care!
Nice to have a tree watch catch up.
My smoke tree is now bereft of all leaves, had some spectacular colours before they all fell. Nice to see some leaves still on the sweet chestnut though l expect their days are numbered now!❄️

Andy, now our smoke trees have lost their leaves, we’ll hunker down and wait for spring to bring new growth. Liz

Andy thanks. It’s been a good year for autumn tree leaf colour. It was indeed, and I agree. xx

Both trees are looking quite bare now, though the sweet chestnut is obviously reluctant to drop all its leaves quite yet.

Jo, yes winter is upon us! I find it interesting to see leaves lingering on some trees. Liz

Jo they are indeed, and I wonder how long it’ll be before they do drop. xx

There’s something nice about those branches emerging from their leaves, getting ready for a rest before spring arrives. Thanks both for sharing your trees!

Hello Liz and Mike—your trees are revealing themselves, though that sweet chestnut is taking its own sweet time 🙂

Hollis hello, they sure are even though the sweet chestnut is slow to do so. xx

I do enjoy a bare tree, it’s lovely seeing the bark and branches without the distraction of the leaves. Interesting about the moss.xxx

Snowbird good for you, me too. I agree, it is. xx

Maybe the smoke tree is trying to get away from the other trees to get space to spread out, even if that means taking the winds head on?

Erika hello, yes that’s quite possible. xx

Fascinating reports as usual from you two.
Intriguing that the smoke tree points into the wind?
The bare branches and golden leaves both look attractive.
Thanks you for continuing to follow in 2022 – and I hope you will continue into 2023.
All the best 🙂
