On the windowsill, June 2021

On the windowsill I’ve now got just four 5″/12.5 cm pots containing a tomato, three cosmos, a pot marigold and a sunflower.

The tomato Red Robin is about 6″/15 cm tall and is growing in sieved grow bag, rather than multi-purpose, compost.

I will put a thin 12″/30 cm cane in the pot not only to support the plant but so I can easily check how tall it is.

I showed the three cosmos Sonata White here recently and they’re still doing well, are around 6″/15 cm tall and continuing to flower.

The pot marigold Oopsy Daisy has reached 8″/ 20cm  so I’ve pinched it out as I want it to be bushy rather than leggy.

I accidently knocked a lower leaf off a few weeks ago and I’m pleased to see that new leaves have already regrown.

I started some sunflower Music Box off in pots on the windowsill which are now all planted out on the plot except the smallest one which I repotted  to keep at home.

It’s barely 3″/7.5 cm tall but has already grown five pairs of leaves.

Take care, and have a good week!

  1. It’s nice to have some interest on the windowsill as well as at the allotment. I’ve never been one for houseplants really but this past year or two I’ve accumulated about half a dozen.

  2. I remain impressed with your skill and success with houseplants. I have only one potential sill for plants, but it is same one used by my dogs to woof at passers by!

  3. The plants on your window sill look lovely.I intended to grow some pot marigolds inside, but forgot! My (outdoor) tomatoes have come on at a fast rate of knots with all this rain and this morning l noticed some little green fruits! Have a good plotting week between the expected showers!Andy xx

  4. Hi Mr F,
    Hope your weekend is good.

What is a sieved grow bag? Am I correct in assuming whatever it is, you have it in a flower pot? I know about the usual big grow bags.

All the plants look very content on your sill. Xxx

    1. Menhir thanks, I spent it mostly indoors as it was drizzly and dull.
I bought a small grow bag, opened it up, then sieved the compost. Most of it was used where I planted out the tomatoes, plus a couple of pots including this one.
They are unless it’s hot, when I move them if I remember. xx

  5. It’s lovely to have plants around the home as well as down on the plot isn’t it. I am trying to grow a lemon, but it doesn’t seem to be doing very well. Hope you have a good week. CJ xx
