again this week as I finished hoeing and weeding the two vegetable patches where I’ll be growing onions, tomatoes, French beans and sweet corn. I then shovelled compost out across both and hand scattered a general fertiliser before raking it all smooth.
Yesterday it was surprisingly misty all morning, then rained after lunch. I detoured to the park, where I took this picture, on my way to the plot.
It was chilly so all I did was to start pruning the dog rose and rose Pretty Lady, and cut out the dead stems on the blackberry bush.
I got distracted at one point as I saw a large bird cross the roadway further up the site. I went and looked and found that it was this female mallard duck partly hidden on one of the plots.
I occasionally see two or three ducks flying round overhead, usually quacking nosily, but have only seen any on the allotments once before. There are plenty to be seen across the road in the park, which I’ve mentioned previously.
Last week I got another present from my friend Karen, who I mentioned recently.
This time she kindly sent me an A4 laminated picture of butterflies and sunflowers. She wrote – I was colouring this one and it had your name on it knowing how much you enjoy sunflowers! I hope it brightens your day. Isn’t it lovely.
Take care, and have a good weekend!
