on the plot I bought as an Iceberg, but didn’t flower the first two years so I moved it following which it reverted to a dog rose. It does well where it is and flowers profusely, although the simple white flowers only last a few days at best.
In the autumn it has lots of large, bright red berries which the parakeets seem to like.
It’s been windy the past two days, gusting at times to 40 mph, but thankfully all was okay when I had a good look round this morning. I hope to plant the tomatoes tomorrow which have been hardening off for a few days. There are three each Gardener’s Delight and Golden Sunrise, both of which I grow most years.
Next week looks like continuing to remain dry, and I see that the Met. Office forecast for June is for little rain. Needless to say the ground surface is now dusty and cracks are starting to appear.

I really like the simple flowers of this rose. You’ve got two lovely roses on your plot. We’ve had very little rain for a long time now, the ground is parched, we could definitely do with a good downpour.

Your Dog Rose née Iceberg is a strange one. We had a pink-ish red one knitted in with scrappy old Holly bushes. The Needles were fierce indelicate objects and obviously intent on keeping people away from it/them.

I like dog roses. My favourite rose, though, is Rambling Rector – wonderful flowers, long flowering season and tremendous scent. Trouble is, it has lethal hooks for thorns and rampages everywhere. I wish I had an ‘everywhere’ for it to rampage in! I’m wondering . . . how tall are your tomatoes when you plant them out? I’m having to give long-distance instructions about what should be done when on my allotment and am saying tomatoes can go into growbags and squashes can go out into open ground in the first week of June. But maybe the tomatoes should be moved on earlier than that?

Lucy me too. That’s a lovely choice, but as you say it needs plenty of room.
I generally plant tomatoes out about now depending on the weather, and they’re about six inches tall. xx

Great that the rose has good berries for the birds. I spent an hour or so tying things up in the garden yesterday because of the wind. Hopefully it’s all secure now. We could really do with some rain, it’s been another really dry spring, which never seems right.

Like Nikki in California, here in Kentucky, we have luck with the Iceberg rose. I suppose the dog rose was the root stock on which your Iceberg was grafted. Still, they are both attractive.
We are up in the 80sF and humid. Too hot for an English born and bred gal like me! Let’s all do a rain dance!

I do love an old-fashioned dog rose, I suppose they are the old roses. I too wish they lasted longer. I hope we get rain soon, but none is forecast. Those winds were 50 mph here, hideous! Hope your tomatoes do well, it’s warm enough for sure.xxx
