I’ve done little more…

than have a quick look round most mornings this week as it’s been cold. On Tuesday there was a hard frost as shown by these pictures of some pot marigolds, primroses and the last roses Pretty Lady.

Whilst taking the photos I was distracted by a flock of at least thirty ring-necked parakeets flying around before they settled on one of the trees in the adjacent ecology park.  This is the most I’ve seen at any one time, and they appear to be resident as they’ve been noted daily by several people over the past few weeks.

Have a good weekend!

The top photo is particularly lovely, all those pale icy colours, nicely captured. It must be amazing to see ring-necked parakeets. I am sure they will reach here before too much longer. Hope you have a good weekend. CJ xx

Lovely photos, but rather sad too, l hate the final goodbye to the season even though it’s all part of the necessary cycle. Had to smile at the irony of the parakeets heading for the ecology park as l know they are considered to be an invasive threat! Lovely sight though!

There’s been frosts here most mornings, winter’s definitely settling in. The parakeets must be quite a sight, especially in those numbers.

The flower crystalline heads are decorative and look good enough for a ceremonial cake! xxx

  5. Those pesky parakeets empty my bird feeders within minutes – Grrrrrrr

Those photos of frost-covered flowers and foliage are lovely, although sad to say goodbye.
I am really intrigued about parakeets invading London. Is this a recent phenomenon?

    • Flighty says:

Liz I agree, on both counts.
They’ve been around since the 1970’s or even earlier. It’s believed the original few were escapee’s which settled in the south-west London area around Twickenham and now number thousands, having spread all over south-east England. xx

The flowers, especially Pretty Lady look like those flowers that people use to decorate cakes. Beautiful!
    Thanks and same to you!

Frosty roses! Likely the end for them this season is near.
