On Friday morning…

I was relieved to find that the previous day’s gusty winds hadn’t caused any damage on the plot apart from a couple of tall cosmos that had toppled over which I righted and staked.

Yesterday and today have been cool and rather wet so this morning I went directly to the horticultural society trading shed.  Not surprisingly it was very quiet with barely a handful of members calling in to buy anything.

I’ve started sorting the pot marigolds Flighty’s favourites, cosmos Sonata White and sunflowers Musicbox seeds that I’ve saved so far.  Most of the latter I’ll be passing on to a good cause which will send to people along with other varieties to grow next year.  More about that in a future post.

Thankfully the weather looks like staying dry and sunny from tomorrow right through the week so I hope to plant out the daffodils which I didn’t do last week.  I’ve also got a few daffodils Spring Dawn which I’ll be planting in a container.  These are bi-coloured with a lemon cup and white petals that only grow a foot (30 cm) high and flower during January/February providing some welcome winter colour.

Have a good week!

Some thoughtful planning. Our weather could be described much as you describe yours. I disbelievingly blinked when I saw 5C deg registering on the thermometer this morning. xx

Your weather sounds like ours. It has suddenly gone from mid to high 80sF to 60F and flood watch! Hard to keep up with. Have a cuppa and biscuits in the horticulture shed. I remember it!

As usual, it feels happy to see pictures of all these beautiful flowers. But more happy, I think, if I can grow some in my own garden one day….
Thanks and hope you have a great gardening week ahead with the weather being more favourable.

I’m pleased to hear that the wind hadn’t caused much damage. There was a tree down in a local car park here which damaged some cars and I also saw a couple of trees which were down by the side of the road too. It’s nice to see some flowers still blooming.

  5. Lovely cosmos. I think we are getting your storm right now as my dehlias are being blown flat by the wind.
    Take care xx

Good news that most of your flowers survived the gusts – there was no damage here but the windows fair rattled in their frames while the wind was blowing! I’m also hoping to get some bulbs planted this week; with the temperature suddenly chillier, it won’t be long before we’re feeling the chill outdoors. Hope it stays fine for you! Caro x

Pleased that most of your flowers survived the winds … nice to see your flower pictures.
It has got so much cooler now, but we have had some sunny days, I hope they last a little longer.

    All the best Jan
