I have a slight touch…

of the summertime blues at the moment.  Thankfully there are still a few things on the plot to cheer me up such as this lovely lemon-yellow sunflower Musicbox.

In case you’re wondering the water droplets are from where I’d been watering a bit earlier.

I had three primroses in pots on the windowsill at home earlier in the year which I planted out in the long planter where they’ve grown well, although they do now look a bit frazzled.  What I wasn’t expecting was to see them flowering again.

I generally do well with onions and this year looks like being no exception apart from there being few larger ones.  Once the foliage has yellowed and toppled I will lift them, and once checked over will store at home to use over the coming months. Hopefully among them there will be four suitable to enter in the horticultural society’s show.

It looks like the temperature is thankfully dropping back to the mid 20’s C/high 70’s F next week but there’s still no significant rain forecast.

Have a good weekend!

Thank you for sharing Flighty and blessing some of my plants are fading but hopeful things will be better next season

  2. Jenny Aspin says:

Hope you feel better soon, Flighty.

I hope you’re feeling a bit better soon. I don’t think this hot weather is helping anyone’s moods, Mick was working down near London yesterday and he said the heat was terrible, I think it tends to make most of us a bit grouchy. The sunflower is a beauty, such a delicate colour compared with the much brighter varieties.

    • Flighty says:

Jo thanks, I’m sure I will as soon as it gets a bit cooler. My sympathies to Mick , and I’m sure you’re right. I agree about the sunflower. xx

  4. The allotment rarely fails to lift the spirits (but a drop of night-time rain would help too)

  5. Liz says:

The oppressive heat must contribute to the summertime blues. Planning your entries for the horticulture show will help. Those onions look like prize winners! And, the sunflower is so pretty.

  6. Jade says:

It is nice to see the sunflower in that colour. So pleasant looking. It is amazing to see those frazzled primroses with their cute little pretties! Hope lower temperatures next week would do them some good.
Your onions seem big and nice. I think you can easily get four for the show!
Love that new white Cosmos banner!
    Thanks and same to you!

    • Flighty says:

Jade I’m glad you like it. It sure was. I hope so.
Most of the onions are slightly smaller than usual. I wish that it was that easy to find four.
Good for you, so do I. Thanks. xx

I hope your mood lifts soon Flighty. I am feeling the same here in Montreal and we are having a heat wave too. I guess I could never live in the tropics. Can’t wait for autumn! Take care.

  8. CJ says:

Sorry you’re feeling a bit down, I hope things improve soon. We actually have rain forecast here at the weekend, which will be novel. We’ll see if it actually arrives though… CJ xx

  9. Stay cool! My garden looked like the end of the world this afternoon at 32 degrees, but a good soaking with the bath water a few clouds and it all bounces back again. Xx

    This weather doesn’t help …
I’m really hoping for cooler days soon!

    That sunflower is gorgeous.

    All the best Jan

Primulas can flower a few times in a year, though, I have found they do require what they find as an attractive ambient temperature together with sufficient moisture in the soil. They survive quite well without lots of watering. It’s nice to see the ones you have.

Your sunflower is almost a diaphanous green.

    Enjoy your cooler weekend.

  12. Don’t like to think of you feeling low Mike, hope it is only fleeting. Sending you love x

  13. Carrie Gault says:

Oh Mike, no, don’t be blue – big hugs and love being sent your way xxx
Everyone will have to same problem at the horticultural society’s show, so you still have a chance that you could be the onion King xx

    • Flighty says:

Carrie thanks, I’m feeling better now it’s cooler. That’s true, but there’s added pressure as I won first prize with mine last year. xx

  14. snowbird says:

Oh, you and me both re the summertime blues, I’ve had enough of this relentless heat and lack of rain. Most of my annuals have already gone over and the veggie patch looks awful. Lovely lemon sunflower! I do hope you find four perfect onions, they all look good to me but a few downpours will enlarge them. Fingers crossed for rain!xxx

    • Flighty says:

Snowbird my sympathies, and me too. So have mine sadly. It sure is. Thanks, it’s never easy to find what I need. There was some rain early today but no more forecast for a while. xx
