I’ve lifted the first beetroot Babybeat, which as you can see was no bigger than a golfball. It cooked quickly and tasted delicious.
Further to last Thursday’s post I’m pleased to see that nearly all the dwarf French beans Sprite that I sowed have germinated and started growing.
I was expecting this cosmos to be either white or yellow! I guess that it’s a Sonata Mixed that got in with the Sonata White seeds.
There are a few cornflowers Polka Dot starting to flower, and it was good to see a Small Skipper butterfly on one this morning.

Beetroot perfection, lucky you. I had a whole load of pink cosmos from a packet of supposedly white seeds a couple of years ago. Lovely to see the small skipper, there have been one or two around here lately as well. I hope you have a good weekend Flighty. CJ xx

Your beetroots are bigger than mine! They taste so good young don’t they? The leaves quick cooked and then salted with lots of olive oil and lemon is the way the Greeks eat beetroot. They prize the leaves above the root!

Cathy that’s as big as this variety gets so I’m sure that yours will grow bigger. They sure do. I have to say that I’ve never eaten the leaves. xx

Your summertime plotting is in full swing. A friend told me that the scarlet runners I’d sown in the center of the culinary herb bed my garden club tends have been eaten down to ground level. I suspect a bunny. Do you suppose they’ll revive or will we have lost them?
