I treated myself…

at the horticultural society trading shed today as I bought this pelargonium Frank Headley which has variegated foliage and salmon pink flowers.  It was only 50p, and as you can see I’ve repotted in a clay pot.

I also bought some gladioli Break O’Dawn corms which have white and soft yellow flowers.

On Thursday morning it was dry and sunny so I did some plotting, but there was a bitterly cold wind so I came home earlier than usual for a much needed cup of tea.  I don’t think that I’ll be doing any this coming week as the forecast is for even colder weather, and there’s likely to be some snow.  The temperature is set to remain around 0 C at best with an easterly wind making it feel much colder.

Have a good week!

  1. Hi Mr F,

Variegated leafed plants always attract my attention. They have that extra bit of interest. The flowers they produce are invariably attractive.

Are the gladioli a very tall variety with a large bloom? I often wonder how the really big specimens grow straight and stay in one piece.

We have, I think, a Scandinavian high pressure weather pattern sitting over us, an extremely icy feel, with crystal clear sunny days. Blessedly, for us, dry as well. What’s coming, according to forecasters, could be as cold as now, or, colder, with iced up bells and frosty whistles as well. I guess we’ll be comparing notes next week! Xxx

    1. Menhir I agree, they are a bit different and always interesting.
I think that the gladioli are about three feet high with smaller flowers. They all have to be staked on my exposed plot.
I think this weather is all the way from Siberia which is why is so cold, and possibly snowy. Thankfully the weekend looks like a return to more normal, and warmer, conditions. xx

  2. Your pelargonium was a bargain, I think the salmon coloured flowers will look lovely amongst the variegated leaves. Wrap up warm, I think this week is going to be cold.

  3. Excellent bargain, I do love variegated foliage. Lovely to see a pelargonium at this time of year. You’re right, it’s going to be freezing this week I think. I had frogs everywhere, but suddenly they’ve all vanished back into the undergrowth. It looks like it will last a while. Stay warm and enjoy a little sofa flying with a good book. CJ xx

  4. Yes to a wee treat especially at such great prices! The weather looks to be terrible this coming week so you got to stay warm and cosy inside. We don’t seem at the minute to have it as terrible as you but I have all the blankets ready and much coffee in the house 😉

    1. Christina me too. It snowed here overnight, and staying cold with possibly more over the next few days. Thankfully getting warmer over the weekend. I agree, and that’s what I’ll be doing. xx
