On reflection I think that…

last year was without doubt my best one yet in the ten years that I’ve been plotting.

All the flowers did well, and I was particularly pleased with the cornflowers Polka Dot and all the cosmos, including these yellow Xanthos.

Of note among the vegetables were the sweet corn, which I picked almost daily throughout August,  and the excellent climbing French beans Sultana which in early September were among my prize winners at the Horticultural Society Annual Show.

Seeing Foxy as I did,  having the robin as an almost constant plot companion and seeing gold finches on the teasels for the first time were the wildlife highlights.

It was lovely to meet Liz, and her daughter Mary, over from Lexington, Kentucky at the end of May and show them round.

I hope that this year will prove to be as good, or even better.

Have a good week!

Those cornflowers & cosmos are beautiful Mike! It’s good to look back and appreciate the positives more. Think we find it easy to look too much on the failures which of course we need in order to succeed ☺️ A lovely positive post from you as always X

    • Flighty says:

Nichola I’m glad you like them. I agree, especially at this time of year. I get my share of failures, and do mention them. Thanks, that’s good of you to say. xx

  2. I do like a post like this – short and to the point, positive and of interest. I must try this sometime, best wishes.

Julie hello. Thanks, that’s good to know. I regularly do two posts a week which are generally no more than 250 words and a few pictures. xx

      • That sounds a good idea but still a lot more thought and work than I think I would be able to keep up with. One post every three weeks seems to be my pattern but I’m hoping I will get fortnightly in a few weeks’ time.

        • Flighty says:

Julie I think that posting regularly is more important than the length of them. If I posted less often I’m sure they’d be longer. I read blogs with daily posts which are a picture with a caption and others which are monthly and are what I call article length. Do whatever suits you. xx

A review of your 10th anniversary plotting was good to read and your prize-winning green beans look like a catalogue picture!
Mike, it was fun for Mary and me to wrap up our visit touring Cotswold gardens to visit you and have a tour of the immaculate plot which we read about in your blog. Your’re rightly proud of it. I am also most grateful to you for hosting me in tree following and sofa reading! Here’s to the next ten years!

    • Flighty says:

Liz I’m glad you enjoyed it. The beans in the picture weren’t straight enough to show but delicious to eat.
It was good to meet you both and I’m glad you enjoyed your visit.
I am indeed. You’re most welcome. I second that. xx

Beautiful pictures! Have a very good year!

  5. CJ says:

Glad it was a good year, you put a lot of effort and it was well rewarded. The veg sound delightful, and those cornflowers were gorgeous. I think you’ve cracked it! CJ xx

  6. How good to hear good news. Here is to an excellent new year at the plot!

  7. Chloris says:

How nice to look back on a successful year. I haven’t tried Sultana, they look excellent.
I have a regular fox visitor in my garden. He is a fine specimen with a white tip to his tail. I no longer get rabbits, I think he keeps them away.

A nice horticultural round up. Ten years ….doesn’t time fly when you are having fun! Xxx

I’m agreeing with all of your other commenters on your lovely post. It was great to share your productive year on the plot, and always encouraging to see pictures of previous flowers and vegetables. Here’s to a super growing season this year as well, with continued visits from fox, robin, and even people!! No more Frog Newton? Not only are you a reliable poster, but also commenter on other blogs 🙂 Thanks.

    • Flighty says:

Glo that’s kind of you to say, and good to know. Let’s hope that we all have a good gardening year. Sadly I’ve not seen any frogs for a few years now. Thanks, I still enjoy blogging and commenting as much as I ever did. You’re most welcome. xx
