I’ve had two good mornings…

so far this week.  Monday was sunny and warm and it was the first time this year that I’ve seen honey bees buzzing round.  They come from a plot neighbour’s hives and I hardly notice them on the flowers during the summer.

Yesterday I tidied up the strawberry patch then hand forked round the  plants before adding a couple of buckets of compost.  They really need digging up and some replanting but that  can wait for another year.

I’ve decided not to empty my compost heap, as I usually do at this time of year, as I’m still digging out, and sieving, barrow loads of compost from the nearby communal wood bays.  I will however turn it over, which is something that I don’t usually bother to do.

It’s very unsettled here this morning with some heavy rain and high winds thanks to the storm that’s passing across the country further north.  I hope that everything is okay when I take a look round tomorrow.

Have a good weekend!

  1. Glad you’ve had some good gardening time. I’ve just moved my strawberries, I hope they will produce some fruit this year. I never really know if changing their bed is worth it or whether I should just buy some new plants and start again.

  2. Your gardening enterprise sounds surreal to me. Much of what you describe doesn’t get underway where I am for a few weeks yet, weather permitting.

Our wee corner of the map had ghastly conditions yesterday. We have an unexpected and remarkable calm today. xx

    1. Menhir working on sunny, warm mornings at this time of year seems real surreal as well. It was very windy here yesterday. Let’s hope we all get some better weather now. xx

  3. So lovely to have bee hives nearby, I’d love it if there were some at our site. The strawberries look great, I’m sure they’ll do really well for another year. Lots of wind here today, although nothing compared to other regions. I’m hoping there are no sheds blown over. CJ xx

    1. CJ I agree, it’s a shame that you don’t have any on your site. Thanks, I hope they do. Really windy here so I’m off this morning to look round the site to see if all is okay. xx

  4. It’s bright and sunny here today after the storm so I hope it’s the same where you are so that you can get another morning in on the plot. I haven’t seen any bees out yet this year. Your strawberries are nice and tidy, it’s so easy for them to get overrun so that’s a job well done.

    1. Jo it is, and I spent the morning on the plot. I’ve only been seeing them this week so I’m sure you’ll see some soon. Thanks, it was a job that needed doing. xx

    1. Lucy it’s when I’d normally be doing it. Worms go deep when the ground is cold but bear in mind that compost heaps generally stay warm. What I’ve been digging, and sieving, out has plenty of small worms in it which is a good sign. xx
