I’ve only been to the plot a couple of times since last Tuesday and, as always, found flowers and plants to enjoy looking at and photographing.
After a slow start the runner beans St. George are now doing well, with most of them having reached the tops of the canes with plenty of flowers on them.
I thought that I might lose the tomatoes given the state of them after that area became waterlogged some weeks ago. I fed them with comfrey liquid feed a couple of times which I’m sure helped them recover. There’s now fruit on them so all that’s needed is some warm sunshine for them to start ripening.
The Rosebay Willowherb has grown up around and through the log pile as it usually does. The flowers looked at closely have a small white cross in the centre of them.
Among the more colourful cosmos are some white Purity which are always pleasing to see being one of my top favourites.
The one surviving sunflower Mongolian Giant has now flowered. I’ll leave this for the birds to enjoy the seeds when they form and hope that a few self-seed so that next year one or two grow into rather bigger, and much taller, plants than this one is.
The knee high sunflowers Musicbox continue to delight, and here are some of the bi-coloured ones.
The forecast is for rain tomorrow and Tuesday which will be welcome, with the rest of the week hopefully being good plotting weather.

The sunflowers are brilliant aren’t they. Runner beans always seem to suddenly take off, mine are looking quite healthy now after a very dubious start. I have ripe tomatoes here too after taking off most of the foliage to let the light in. Hope you have a good week Flighty. CJ xx

I don’t have sunflowers on my veg patch this year but am thoroughly enjoying looking at the ones up at the plots. My tomatoes are the same, either just starting to flower or any fruit staying resolutely green – hopefully that will all change in the coming weeks and at least there’s no blight! (yet). Lovely to have a bit of rain early this week, it will be so good for gardeners everywhere!

I’ve grown St George runners in the past and they’ve usually done well, I like their pretty bicoloured flowers too. Purity has got to be my favourite cosmos variety, they’re so pretty and understated. Glad to hear that your tomatoes have recovered, mine are starting to ripen now, they’re not doing so well this year though, a mixture of the seeds being sown late and a cold start, I think they’ll be playing catch up all year.

The knee-high sunflower is like a young ballerina learning to launch, with its delightfully elegant petals waving in the breeze. Isn’t it great that your tomatoes have bounced back, metaphorically speaking.
It does seem that you are coming into a more stable plotting period. xxx

Well I’ve never had much luck with Cosmos or Sunflowers for some reason but one year I’ll grow some decent ones!! Looks like some much needed rain this week ☔

Your sunflowers look terrific and the cosmos is very pretty. It almost looks as though a white cross has been drawn in the rosebay willowherb! My Flighty’s Favourites calendula are just making a statement. Good luck with the beans and tomatoes.

I love those sunflowers and Cosmos’ Purity’ is one of my favourites too. Rain is forecast, but I don’ t suppose it will amount to much, it never does. We could do with a real soak.

It’s all just beautiful. I have neglected my efforts again this year in the flower growing section. But I can live vicariously through yours xx I must push myself to get to the plots some night this week or I’ll find it too difficult again. You have inspired me – to go searching for colourful blooms, maybe on other plots 🙂
