All frozen and icy

Thankfully the snow on Sunday only lasted a day but it’s been very cold since with hard overnight frosts.  On Tuesday morning I found that the allotment site gate lock was frozen so walked round to the other end to see if that gate lock was okay, which thankfully it was.

The plots were all frozen and icy but there’s certainly something a bit magical  about frosty plants.   Here are daffodil leaves (top left), common fennel old stems and new growth (top right), crocuses (bottom left) and a strawberry plant (bottom right).

It looks like getting noticeably warmer from tomorrow onwards but remaining mostly dull, and wet and windy at times.

Have a good weekend!

Lovely photos Mike. The frost highlights all the small details on the leaves and stems, and with the weather being so cold, there’s no gardening to do. So we can only stop and admire the beauty. I agree, it is magical. Have a great weekend Mike. Hope it’s mild where you are.

The frost makes everything look so pretty, doesn’t it? It was the same here this morning. I’m not a fan of the cold weather but I think I prefer it to rain, which is forecast here tomorrow, though at least it’s going to be warmer.

The frost, especially on the strawberry and fennel leaves, is like a spinning of gossamer. Very pretty.

Yes, everything looks magically sugar-dusted. I’m surprised you already have crocus blooming 🙂

  13. I get out and walk through the garden daily, even in the middle of winter. There is something special about being in the garden when it is just you.
