Tree Following, August 2015 – A fig tree

I wandered down the allotment site one morning last week to look at the fig tree and take a few photos.  It’s on Trevor’s plot and he was there feeding his chickens so we chatted for a while.  He mentioned that a few days previously he’d enjoyed eating the one fig that hadn’t dropped, and was also hopeful that given some good weather over the coming weeks that he’d get to enjoy some more as the second crop has grown noticeably in recent weeks.

He also reckoned that removing the old shed earlier in the year had helped to reinvigorate the tree.  Where the shed had been is now a flower bed that is full of colour,  and the poppies were buzzing with bees.

What I forget to photograph was the grape vine that he has growing up through the tree, which I’ll hopefully show next month.

See Lucy’s Tree Following post for details of what this is all about and this one for links to other Tree Following posts for this month.

Happy gardening, and have a good weekend!

That is a good second crop of figs. Fingers crossed! Did Trevor put a shed on another part of his plot?

  2. Let’s hope there’s some good weather – for the figs and for all of us 🙂

A fig tree with a grape vine growing through sounds wonderful. I’m glad its doing well for Trevor, mine hasn’t fruited for three years now. I’m going to re pot it & stick it in the greenhouse for winter xx

  4. CJ says:

What a lovely plot. There are a few figs here that I’m hoping will ripen in a few weeks. Delicious. CJ xx

I always think it interesting the way figs grow on the branches — like you never know whether you’ll get a leaf or a fruit next! Nice closeup, Flighty. And such a lovely scene of flowers. The tree certainly looks healthy.

Lovely to see a second crop of figs growing 🙂 Also good to picture the chickens… does he have many? Flowers look so bright and cheery! Hope you are feeling well!

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for some good weather for us all, none here today, it’s non stop rain. It would be nice for those figs to ripen.

I’ve moved my fig to the greenhouse and we’re getting some figs. It’s just a shame I don’t even like them!

Lovely to see the second crop, I would have settled for just one fig on my tree! I would like to see the chickens too!xxx
