A dismal weekend…

weather-wise is both unseasonable and unwelcome at this time of year.  Yesterday was mostly breezy, cool and dull and today looks like being the same.

As this coming week is British Flowers Week I thought that I’d show a few of Flighty’s favourite flowers that are blooming on the plot at the moment.

Last week the cheery pot marigolds started appearing, here’s the first of them along with a yellow one.

The blue and white love-in-a-mist is looking wonderful.

Sadly the oriental poppies suffered in the rain and wind on Friday night but looked great for a few days beforehand.

On Friday I posted this picture of the rose Pretty Lady in full bloom on the Facebook group Friendly Gardeners since when it’s received 140 likes and various comments.

Have a good week, and happy gardening!

Thanks for the photos of flowers in their glory. Unlike your unseasonably dismal weather, we’re heading for a record-breaking heat wave in June with temps close to the 90s F for the foreseeable future. We’re being teased with chances of rains each day but right now it’s out to the garden early with the hose and watering can!

This post is just what we need to cheer us up on a day like today. It’s been raining all day here, it was forecast rain yesterday too but we got away lightly there. Your Pretty Lady rose really is fabulous, it’s carrying so many blooms this year.

That rose really is sensational. Did I dream it, or did you say that it will continue to flower until November? I planted a Madame Alfred Carriere a couple of years ago, which I thought was repeat flowering. I’ve just had a lovely flush of white roses, but now they appear to have finished completely. Maybe there will be more later, I do hope so. I used to have an Albertine that was gorgeous, but it was literally a two-week event and then it was over for the year. CJ xx

CJ it sure is. No I did say that, and hopefully she won’t prove me wrong this year! Let’s hope that you do get get some more white roses flowering. That is the downside with some of them isn’t it. xx

All your blooms are lovely, but I must say Pretty Lady is the total star of the show, I’m not at all surprised she received so many likes and comments….never have I seen a bush so laden!
We are in urgent need of rain, it was forecast but not a drop has fallen!xxx

It’s no wonder you’ve gotten so much attention from that shot of your rose! What a wonderful display. I was enjoying the self-seeded pot marigolds in the garden this weekend (original seeds from you, of course!) and bagged up some seeds to share with my aunt.

Pretty Lady is such a beautiful rose which makes a perfect bush – is it fragrant?

It’s been a wonderful year for flowers and blossom – everything seems to be so much more exuberant than last year! I’ve been away for a few weeks looking after elderly parents so I’ve just come back to the aftermath of rain and wind. My poppies look very tatty close up!
