Tree Following, May 2015 – Liz’s Stewartia

The saying is that April showers bring May flowers, and goodness we have had one of the wettest Aprils on record here in Kentucky.

The Stewartia has  now leafed out and is looking green and glossy.

The close-up picture shows that the May flowers are not quite here, but the buds are clearly forming.  The white blob in the background is Charlie, one of my two dogs, who doesn’t usually appear for a photo shoot.  Perhaps he’s indicating the colour of the camellia-like flowers that hopefully will have bloomed for the June post.

See Lucy’s Tree Following post for details of what it’s all about, and this one for links to other tree followers posts for this month.

My thanks to Mike for letting me guest post, and to Lucy for hosting Tree Following.

  4. Jo says:

It was a dry April here but the first week of May has already made up for it. The stewartia has certainly greened up, I’m sure the flowers will be along soon.

    • Liz says:

Jo, we had almost the wettest April ever and now it’s mid 80sF, muggy, and no rain for over a week. You can’t win! I’m watching for those flowers. Liz

  5. coastcard says:

Let’s hope you are rewarded with a mass of May flowers!

  6. Alison says:

I planted a stewartia a couple of years ago, it is still very small, I hope it looks as good as yours in years to come.

    • Liz says:

It is a very pretty specimen and particularly lovely in bloom, so I’m sure you’ll enjoy yours too. Liz

  7. nikkipolani says:

I never tire of seeing new spring growth. Green and glossy? Gorgeous!

A lovely tree with such beautiful apple green leaves. I look forward to seeing the flowers.

  10. Flighty says:

I think that one reason that we like spring so much is seeing such bright new growth, and I’m looking forward to seeing the buds bloom and flower on this lovely tree. xx

    • Liz says:

Thanks, Mike. As you know it’s been a waiting game for the Stewartia to do anything, so we’ll look forward with anticipation! Liz
(And thanks for sorting out my WordPress problem!)

  11. A lovely little tree, and it looks as if the blossom will soon arrive too.

  12. Liz says:

Oh, I do hope the flowers come soon, Janet. We’ve been about 10 days without rain and it’s been hot, so perhaps that has slowed things down a little. Liz

  13. snowbird says:

Green and glossy is good! I am looking forward to the blooms. We had one of the driest April’s

  14. Felix says:

I do not recognize the stewartia just yet so I am awaiting the flower pictures next month. It is quite attractive with that lush green foliage as well.
