Another busy week!

I had a busy week which ended yesterday with my local horticutural society show. It was a most enjoyable day, although a long and tiring one.  I shall do a post all about it, probably later on during the week.

As well as being busy it’s been a good week as I received two gardening books. One was from the publisher whilst the other was from Veg Plotting,  both of which I shall read then review here. VP also included a bookmark note where she wrote…Flighty, I hope that enjoy this as much as I did. It’s great to be able to send this to you as a small thank you for everything you do make the virtual world a friendlier place. Best wishes, VP!   PS It seems weird to call you by your actual name, so I hope that you don’t mind me still calling you Flighty!

I also managed to do a fair bit of plotting, and now really need to do a post about the various successes, and failures, of this year’s vegetables.

On the plot there is this single, very striking, sunflower which is less than three feet tall with a saucer sized flower, but it’s tucked away almost out of sight. It’s a helianthus annus Sungold, which as you can see has a most unusual double flower.

I now need to catch up with various things, as well as reading and commenting on blogs and forums, so it looks like I’m going to have another busy week!

Happy gardening!

New gardening books for Autumn, lovely! I do like your sunflower, most unusual. I too have a busy week ahead, having been out of action for a big chunk of last week 🙂 look forward to hearing about the Show.

    • Flighty says:

Mo I start to read more as we head towards winter so it’s good to be stockpiling books. Me too, and it sure is!
I was sorry to read about you being indisposed and hope that you’re now okay.
It was a good day, and I’ll try to do a post sooner rather than later! xx

  2. Hope the show went well – you should have a bit of a lie-in today and put your feet up for a bit. That sunflower is amazing (I hope you’re not going to tell me it’s a self-seeder. ) Looking forward to your next post.
    Elaine xx

    • Flighty says:

Elaine thanks it did and was a great day all round! Today was back to normal, although I spent this afternoon sofa flying as it was raining here. It sure is, and no it’s not a self-seeder! Thanks, I’ll try to do it on Tuesday. xx

  3. Stunning flower, I’ve seen it in the seed catalogues.
My mum has a bird sown sunflower growing out of a planter, it gives her great pleasure (something that is not easy to find, given her health)

    • Flighty says:

Uphilldowndale like you I’ve only seen it in the catalogues before now. It’s great if they self-seed like that, and give us such pleasure when they do. xx

  4. nikkipolani says:

Glad the day was fun and enjoyable at the show! I’m looking forward to hearing more about it. Your sunflower is stunning indeed. Hope you’ll show what it looks like when the seeds form… or do they?

And I do sympathise with VP — I have to remind myself to write your name and not “Flighty”! Enjoy writing up your season summary.

    • Flighty says:

Nikki thanks, it was both I’m happy to say! It’ll be the next post in a couple of days time. It’s amazing isn’t it! Being a double there’s no discernable seed head so I’ll have to see what happens as I don’t know.
It’s not surprising that we all get confused at times but I don’t mind! Thanks i will. xx

  5. Donna says:

Well I don’t have to worry about your real name because I don’t know it!!

Looking forward to the post about the show, and the one about the successes and failures of the growing season. Do we really have to wait until at least Thursday??

    • Flighty says:

Donna I use Flighty, my real name Mike and also Sofaflyer in various places online but only have the one avatar.
Hopefully I’ll do the show post Tuesday and the other one on Thursday, or at the weekend. xx

  6. I’ve enjoyed catching up with the posts that I’ve missed while away. I hope you managed to see the BBC Proms the other evening; my parents went to see “Singing in the Rain” at the theatre recently and my mother couldn’t wait to see the film again afterwards!
As it’s raining today, I hope you’ve been able to put your feet up after yesterday’s show: it almost feels like the sort of weather for afternoon tea and toast, doesn’t it? Looking forward to future posts with book reviews (intriguing … which books, I wonder?) and catch up news. Caro xx

    • Flighty says:

Caro hello I wondered where you’d got to! I did watch it but did keep dozing off.
Yes I’ve been sofa flying most of the afternoon, and had tea and toast earlier on whilst watching TV.
I’ll be reading and reviewing the book from the publisher first, which isn’t available until November. xx

  7. Doris says:

What a gorgeous sunflower! Thanks for sharing its beauty!

  8. Jo says:

I’m looking forward to hearing the news about your show, I was sorry to miss our’s this year. I’m equally looking forward to hearing which books you’re reading, there’s always more time for indoor pursuits once autumn is here. What an unusual sunflower, I confess that I do prefer the singles though.

  9. Ellie says:

Look forward to your show report – they are such fun and I’m glad the tradition continues. That’s a very beautiful sunflower, Flighty. I might risk growing some myself next year, despite the exposure to strong coastal winds. I also enjoyed the link to Veg Plotting – now bookmarked. Hopefully, now that summer is ending(?), I’ll catch up on computer time. Sorry I’ve been a bit remiss at commenting lately. x

    • Flighty says:

Ellie hello, I’ll be posting it later today. Although the catalogue says that it grows to six foot this one is barely half that so it’s not so exposed. I’m sure that you’ll enjoy VP’s blog, she’s long been a favourite of mine.
That’s okay I’d guessed that you’ve been busy! xx

  10. Congrats on the books – look forward to the reviews. AM not convinced you ever have weeks that are not busy, but hey! Glad the show went well.

    • Flighty says:

Janet I’ve started reading one and the review will follow soon! I suppose that some weeks just don’t seem busy until I look back at what I’ve done. Thanks! xx

  11. VP says:

I’m so glad to see the book’s arrived and because I know you love books I’m pleased you’re also getting them from publishers 🙂

Looking forward to seeing what you make of them. Looking at what the forecast is for the weekend, I’m sure you’ll be sofa flying quite a bit this weekend 😉

    • Flighty says:

VP many thanks, it looks to be a book I’m going to enjoy reading and reviewing. Maureen, another blog friend and fellow tweeter, alerted me to the other one.
I think that you’re right having looked at the forecast earlier on! xx
