The SoCal Birdie…

is name that I’ve given to this delightful metal garden ornament that Nikki kindly sent me from Southern California (SoCal) as a Christmas present.

It’s on the mantelpiece at the moment but I’ll be taking it to the plot to fix securely to the shed.

It will join Fox Junior and the Canuck Boys as plot residents.

Junior still sits by the log pile mostly hidden among the long grass and wildflowers on the small patch I leave for wildlife. The Boys are in the shed hibernating but will be out and about again before too long.

What a lovely garden ornament. I have lots of little ornaments around my garden but none on the plot, I’m sure they’d get stolen if I left anything there.

We (that is before I got to be an ancient Brit) never, ever had anything stolen from our allotment. Sheds were never locked, greenhouses either and if you were not there and it was a sunny day, somebody would open the greenhouse door to ensure it did not get too hot. We looked out for each other.

‘Allotmenteers’ were are different breed of people. Surely they have not changed as well.

Mrs K times have changed, not for better, and sadly it’s a constant problem nowadays.
Thankfully it’s very rarely other allotmenteers that are the problem but usually kids. xx

Allotmenteers are still a different breed of people, Mrs K. They do still look out for each other, I’m pleased to say, but as Flighty says, it’s not them who are the problem, it’s others who want what everyone else has got without having to work for it, sadly. I’ve heard tales of the veg itself being stolen, never mind tools and such like. I don’t think it’s in any particular area either, it’s the same all over now. Such a shame that things aren’t like they used to be.

Those are great ornaments! Thanks for sharing them.

Aw that is so cute. I’d be a bit worried too about leaving anything that nice on the plot for the vandals to nick or ruin.
