it looks like the weather here is doing what we want it to do!
I spent the morning both yesterday and today on the plot. Much of the time I was weeding, but even after all that effort it still looks as though I’ve hardly touched it, mind you it seems that I’m not the only one!
Whilst removing the empty plastic compost bags that cover the compost heap I was surprised to find a mouse that decided it didn’t like being disturbed and disappeared down into the far corner. The only other wildlife of note were a number of spiders scuttling over the log pile.
The grape vine is showing signs of growth, and in the same planter are some seedlings which I didn’t sow!

I’ve noticed a few flowers on the strawberries and some of the early potato leaves are appearing
I’ve transferred the sweet peas, the aquilegia is about to flower and the lilies(?), that Joe gave me in autumn, which died right back have reappeared.
I’m letting this tree(?) grow at least for a while, and here’s the first flower on the plant in the stone centre feature.
Birds(?) ate all the leaves on this plant when it was in the grape vine planter but is now regrowing, and I do like daisies!
I hope to spend at least an hour there most mornings during the week when I’m working from now on and should be sowing some seeds each time I’m there, as well as doing a bit more weeding!
Happy gardening, and relaxing lawn lounging afterwards!

You seem to be doing a fine job Flighty! Glad you are getting to enjoy your garden more these past few days. Keep it up!

Mylozmom thanks, I certainly hope so! It was so good to actually be able to work on the plot. I’ll try my very best! xx

I’m in a t-shirt and everything!
xx

Liv I know what you mean! I rolled up my shirtsleeves and nearly worked up a sweat!
Have a good week! xx

Nice photos! It’s great to see growth! The grape leaves look healthy, the little seedlings are sweet…I wonder what they’ll turn into? The strawberry flower looks promising, the new potatoes are on their way
The sweet peas should be happy climbing the posts…is that next one a columbine? It will be interesting to see the “lilies” grow. I wonder what kind of tree that is…I have those blue flowered plants, still in bud though. That’s a very effective photo of it. How could anyone not like daisies
I’m glad that the weather has cheered up so that you can get plotting.

The weather we are having now is perfect for growing and growing they certainly do, both the plants and the weeds.
I’ve been doing a lot of weeding too lately. Must put the sweet peas into the flowerbeds soon. My aquilegias have been flowering for more than a week now and my lawn is covered with daisies which is great!
Happy gardening Flighty!

Hiya, Flighty.
Thanks for the mention. The weeds are plotting to take over the world, you know.
Wow, flowers on the strawberries already? You’ll have a harvest in no time at this pace.
Ook - get that mouse. That little bugger will do a ton of damage in no time if he retains his freedom. And bring more, or have more. lol.
I can’t stand mice!

Glo thanks! I wonder too about the seedlings, I just hope that they survive and thrive.
Yes columbine and aquilegia are the same plant.
I’ll try and identify the tree, which is all of a foot high at present.
I’m certainly a lot cheerier now that I’m plotting again every day or so! xx

Yolanda as you say everything grows now it’s sunny and warm.
Thanks, you too! xx

Tina hello! You’re welcome. It certainly seems that way!
The strawberry flowers surprised me as I only transplanted them a week or two back!
The allotment site is full of wildlife, including mice, and it’s simply not possible to do much about it. xx

Loving these little updates on your plantings, Flighty. Makes me feel like I’m experiencing a long spring. Things are just starting in France as well. The lilacs have been just gorgeous. Your strawberries have certainly gotten a good beginning. I hope they’ll produce really well for you
And thanks for the warm welcome back. It’s good to get back to the familiar, however much I like to explore.

Nikki I’m glad that you like them. It’s been a long, and far too wet spring, here! Hopefully this weeks sunny and warm weather will now continue.
I know that Daffy will be pleased if I get any strawberries. I’ll be looking for blackberries and raspberries.
You’re welcome, as we’ve missed you, and the cats!
I know the feeling, and having the plot now I’d be reluctant to go far or for long over the new few months at least! xx

So glad you have been able to get on the plot, the weather has been perfect for us and the plants, my garden has gone mad! The lily you mention looks very much like lily of the valley? I have flowers on my strawberry plants too. x

Hi Mr F
Glad the weather’s improved and you are making progress. We still haven’t managed to do much on our allotment, though we transplanted some peas and broad beans. Love your photos, particularly the Centaurea (cornflower) - it’s one of my favourite perennials.
Flighty // May 6, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Louise yes it’s really good to go there and do things for a few hours again. Your garden and everywhere else!
They’re not lily of the valley as they grow big leaves and produce a flower spike.
Here’s hoping we all get plenty of good strawberries! xx
Flighty // May 6, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Ellie I’m sowing flower seeds this week then I’ll get back to the vegetable ones.
It’s certainly an unusual looking flower! xx
nikkipolani // May 7, 2008 at 4:42 pm
Those lilly leaves almost look like calla or canna lillies - both quite resilient plants here. And your purply flower - I saw one on a walk in Breuillet and took a photo of it. Will post it later. I’m a long way from having my pictures sorted!
Flighty // May 7, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Nikki it’ll be fun watching them grow that’s for sure! Cornflowers, both annual and perennial, are widespread over here.
No rush, it’s just nice to know that there’s lots to look forward to! xx
Lisa // May 11, 2008 at 12:26 am
Spring is here! Your garden looks lovely. You’ll send some strawberries when they’re up, right?
Flighty // May 11, 2008 at 6:24 am
Lisa most definitely! Thanks. I’d love to share them with everybody if I could! xx
