I thought that it was very quiet when I woke up this morning. It had that silent sound that a covering of snow gives. Sure enough I opened the the curtains to a snowy Sunday!
I had a quick cup of tea and a biscuit before donning my coat, cap, gloves and wellies. This time I wanted to photograph Plot 124 in the snow.
There was perhaps an inch of soft snow underfoot, and big flakes falling as I walked along. I reached the gates and could see that no one else had been here this morning.
I’m glad that I was here during the week doing some work. In fact it was very pleasant in the sunshine on Thursday morning, which was the warmest day of the year so far!
Thankfully the bird feeders are okay and there’s no ice on the pond, so it’s a few more photos then home for a another cup of tea and some toast. Much of the rest of the day will most definitely be spent sofa flying!
Plotting along the entry planned for today is all about what I’d been doing here during the week and which I’ll now post in the next day or two.

Whoa! What’s all this, then? It’s beginning to look more like Canada, than here! Poor old Frog Morton will be sporting a white cap. Nice that you were able to see the plot in its early morning pristine condition ~ I love the way the green shed stands out against the otherwise black and white photo, as if it’s going to have nothing more to do with winter! Good for you to weather the storm in your wellies, to take some photos and check on the birds! Enjoy your sofa flying ~ it’s a cosy way to spend a snowy day

Hi Flighty, I hope to take some photos of the snow later. I am sure this is the first major snowfall we have had down here on the coast in West Sussex this year, it is almost unheard of? I don’t like the snow, the brightness of it makes me feel sick. I am so glad I have no commitments for today, so I may do some sofa flying later this afternoon, although I have a lot to catch up with indoors, which will keep me busy! I hope any tender plants will survive this, they like Frog Morton probably thought it was safe to come out! x

Glo yes it was a bit of surprise! I checked the pond to make sure that it ice free. I didn’t mind being out in it as it wasn’t windy so it didn’t feel to bad being all wrapped up!
After lunch I’ll be settling down with a cup of tea, some biscuits and a good book.
Have a good, and relaxing, day yourself. xx
flighty // April 6, 2008 at 9:26 am
Louise it’s probably the first snow like this at this time of year in a very long time!
I sympathise as I know someone who also feels like you do.
The plants should recover as they only really suffer in severe frosts.
Enjoy your day! xx

Hey there, Flighty.
Wow, that is unusual for that area at this time of year, is it not?
I’m so sorry you’re staring at white.
Will this winter never end? Well, I know it will, but I wish it would hurry up and just do it already.
flighty // April 6, 2008 at 10:31 am
Tina hello! It has been unusual in recent years, but I can remember some quite snowy Easters in April way back when.
It won’t last and is already melting.
It certainly seems reluctant to do so this year. We all feel like that, but it will soon! xx
vegmonkey // April 6, 2008 at 11:57 am
It’s a nightmare all this crazy weather eh! I bet you felt quite smug being the first there and not seeing any footprints!
flighty // April 6, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Vegmonkey hello and welcome! It would be nice to have some settled springlike weather.
Yes I was well pleased it was like that!
uphilldowndale // April 6, 2008 at 12:03 pm
Ours has nearly all gone, but it was awesome whilst it lasted.
flighty // April 6, 2008 at 12:07 pm
Uphilldowndale it really looks great in your photos! xx

Hi Flighty! Generally speaking, Brazilians love dreaming of snowy days. Although I think it is very romantic, I can imagine how a sudden snowfall make people change their plans. Poor Frog Morton. Yesterday I read about it and admired the wonderful work of your friend Glo, she is Canadian, isn’t she? Congratulations, Glo!
Well… about Frog Morton, I’d like to know what will happen to him. I don’t know how this kind of animals survive the snowy weather. Hugs, my friend.
flighty // April 6, 2008 at 12:27 pm
Lady Drid hello! Here we all dream of sunny, warm days! The snow looks nice, but thankfully doesn’t last long as it usually causes transport chaos.
Yes Glo is Canadian. As well as doing these wonderful Frog Ponderings she writes lovely poems and takes superb photos as you’ll see if you look at her blog.
Frog Morton will be okay as he’ll stay in bed while it’s cold and snowy!
Take care, and hugs! xx

ASTOUNDING! But I have to say, I love that image of Plot 124 in the snow with the little shed standing bravely. These are terrific images, Flighty, despite the fact that it’s rather unexpected and might scare some of your new sprouts into retreat.
flighty // April 6, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Nikki that’s so typical of the weather here. It had all gone by lunch-time but of course it’s made the earth wetter when I want it drier!
No sprouts, and precious little else as I’m still on the starting line so to speak!
Perhaps next weekend… xx

Amazing how similar you allotment under snow looks to ours.
It was Mrs. LDNP’s turn to open t’allotment shop today which means it snowed. Her last turn was on Easter Sunday which was also awful weather. She may get voted off the rota if this continues!
flighty // April 6, 2008 at 6:34 pm
NiC you mean a white wilderness!
I hope that you’re not blaming her for the weather. I didn’t even venture to ours today. Cheers!
isadora // April 6, 2008 at 8:03 pm
Aha!! the answer to my earlier question:-/
It may not have lasted but there sure was a covering !! Nice pics.
flighty // April 6, 2008 at 8:11 pm
Isadora hello and welcome! Yes indeed as you see it was very snowy here this morning. These were taken about 8.00am, but it had cleared completely by early afternoon. Thanks! xx
cafecortado // April 6, 2008 at 8:14 pm
Wow! I too woke up this morning and wondered why it was so quiet. I put it down to the credit crunch - lol! Believe it or not my flat overlooks some allotments - I thought you’d photographed them! I suspect all over the country they look the same when covered by snow.
flighty // April 6, 2008 at 8:31 pm
Cafecortado there is a distinct lack of sound when it has snowed. You could well be right!
They certainly lose their individuality when it’s like that. Cheers!
Liv // April 7, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Snap! I took pics as soon as I woke up.
I don’t care for snow, specially here as it’s usually very wet stuff - but I do like the large silence of the sky as it falls….
xx
Lisa // April 7, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Very nice photograph!
flighty // April 7, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Liv I don’t care for it much. As you say too wet, and it soon goes grey and slushy.
I like that expression…the large silence of the sky! xx
flighty // April 7, 2008 at 2:41 pm
Lisa hello, and thanks! xx
Lisa // April 8, 2008 at 12:58 pm
I like your references to “sofa flying”. It makes lounging around seem like an adventure, really.
simplelsie // April 8, 2008 at 1:34 pm
Your place looks a lot like my place has been looking, except that my place has quite a lot of litter–branches and twigs from the trees. Winter was long and snowy this year and the yard shows the beating it’s taken from it.
I’ll take inspiration from your good example and get out there and clear everything up–as soon as the rain stops.
I’m very interested in that
simplelsie // April 8, 2008 at 1:36 pm
oops! it posted before I’d finished! I’m using a laptop my fingers don’t know their way around very well.
What I’d intended to say was that I am interested in the “sunshine” you mention. What exactly is “sunshine”? I’ve heard of it before but I can’t exactly remember what it is–it’s been such a really longgggggg snowy winter.
M // April 8, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Wow! Those are some impressive photos; I woke to sunlight this Sunday (and thought “hmm, they were lying” - opened my curtains and saw snow all around - although nothing quite as impressive - most of it had melted away. Although it did then snow another two or three times during the day.
flighty // April 8, 2008 at 3:46 pm
Lisa I’m a lifelong aviation enthusiast who has never really liked flying! I’m more than happy to be sofa flying reading or watching TV. xx
flighty // April 8, 2008 at 3:52 pm
Simplelsie hello and welcome. My plot is in the middle of the site so there are no trees close by.
I sympathise that you’ve had a long, snowy winter over there, and which we tend to forget here.
I’m sure that spring and sunshine will arrive there soon and the plants will burst into life.
Thanks for stopping by. Take care. xx
flighty // April 8, 2008 at 3:57 pm
M hello and thanks! It really was snowing hard when I took them. There was a inch or two on the ground which melted quite quickly during the morning.
Since then it’s been very springlike again! Cheers!
mylozmom // April 9, 2008 at 5:10 pm
holy snow! hope your plants are okay!
flighty // April 9, 2008 at 5:18 pm
Mylozmom they’re fine. Plants tend to suffer if it settles and freezes, which it didn’t thankfully. xx
