I’ve mentioned this colourful, noisy bird before and was chatting to plot neighbour Trevor on Sunday morning when we saw one fly over the top of us. He reckons that they’ll be settling in the trees just behind his plot as he keeps seeing a few of them. There is a ten minute programme on BBC2 tomorrow at 8.50pm, repeated Saturday on BBC2 at 6.30pm, all about them.
Also on Saturday BBC2 at 6.40pm is Wild Scilly: Britain’s Island Paradise which I’ll be watching. I went on a day trip to Tresco by helicopter a long time ago. It was one of those perfect days that are rarely experienced but remembered forever.
I’ve been watching Life in Cold Blood, which has been compelling viewing, but next Monday’s one Sophisticated Serpents may well be the one that I watch very little of. Instead I’ll probably watch the Time Team Special The Real Knights of the Round Table which is on Channel 4 at the same time.
If you’re an early bird then have a listen to BBC Radio 4’s Living World on Sunday at 6.35am. It’s the first in a new series 1/4. In Search of Dippers. You can of course catch up with it later by listening online.
Have a good weekend!
[This entry is titled Untitled ! as for once I simply could not think of one!]

Parrots! Wow! How unusual! Are they unwanted pets?
I think you need to get yourself a little digital camera, there is so much you may see and then you could share.
Life in Cold Blood has been brilliant, there is a book to accompany the series…
So, not gonna brave the slithery guys then? hehe
I am an early bird but I’m 6.30 on a Sunday may be pushing it a little!
Ths is a wonderful round up and of course for friends who can’t access the viewing you have the links here!
Titles! Well why don’t we all have a go at providing one and you can choose the one that fits best!
My offer is… *drum roll please*
Parrot Paradise with a Slither and Dip in Time.
Too Long? Perhaps.

Daffy the parakeets were originally a few unwanted pets which have happily breed here in the London area and now number many thousands!
I have a small digital camera! Most of the plot photos on my entries have been taken with it.
Brilliant indeed, and so’s the book which I’ve looked at in the bookshop. I’ll probably watch most of it, then have a sleepless night dreaming about them!
I must admit that 6.30am at this time of year is borderline for me, especially on a Sunday.
Thanks, and I do appreciate that some people can’t see the programmes hence the links.
Good title but as you say just a bit too long! xx

Hi Flighty, the article says you can see parakeets in Sussex, well I haven’t ever seen one, although I do know there are many in the London area. I always think it very odd to think of parakeets in our trees, they just don’t seem to belong somehow.

Oooo thanks for the Wild Scilly mention, I hadn’t spotted that in the schedules (funny time of the week to be on?). The Scillies were where most of my childhood holidays took place and we’ve just been back a couple of times after an absence of 20 plus years. A lovely place.
Not yet seen any of the parakeets around our way in East London though I know they have been seen over the other side of Walthamstow. Having seen how quickly they can empty a seed feeder at my parent’s house I hope they don’t find ours any day soon!
Thanks also for the link.

Oh Flighty……….Tresco looks breath taking! The King Arthur’s final resting place? That’s truely a site too see. My husband would LOVE to take trip there for sure. I really do wish I could get the shows you are describing over here in Canada as they sound so interesting. I guess hearing your reviews of them will have to suffice. I think the title could be………………..Things that might intrigue you!

Louise hello! I think that West London around Twickenham is their main area. You’re right as seeing bright green parakeets does seem odd, especially a flock of them!

NiC hello, thanks for stopping by! Yes it’s not the best day and time is it. I’ve only been the once but would love to go again for a proper holiday.
At the moment birds on the plot are eating the peanuts but not much seed.
You’re welcome! I like photo blogs and yours being close to home is especially interesting. Cheers!

Mylozmom I went for a day at the end of May and the weather was perfect. I’d love to go again for a really good look round the Abbey Gardens. It’s reputed to have been but so has various other places!
I’m sorry that you can’t watch these programmes that’s why I always try to include various links as I do.
That’s another good title, thanks!

Thank for the info on the parrots, I’ll point it out to my friends who live in Kingston (London, not Jamaica¬) who regularly have them feeding in their garden
nikkipolani // February 21, 2008 at 6:46 pm
How interesting about the parrots, Flighty. We see Mexican parrots here, but they’re very skittish and don’w fly very low or near people.
flighty // February 21, 2008 at 6:59 pm
Uphilldowndale you’re welcome. I think that your friends are lucky to see them in their garden.
flighty // February 21, 2008 at 7:02 pm
Nikki so far I’ve only caught glimpses of them flying overhead away from me so I’ve yet to get a good look. As you can see from Uphilldowndale’s comment they do visit gardens here to feed.

Wow. I wonder if I’ll get any parrots like that down my neck of the woods ? I’ll keep my eyes peeled now I’ve started walking again on the canal after all the inclement weather we’ve been having (last week with the frost and frozen water was pretty awesome looking though; when I get through my backlog of photo uploads I’ll share
)
I’ve been terrible these past few weeks when it comes to TV; most nights I’ve been delayed and exhausted and missed all the good stuff ..
still; some of it will be available on DVD in the near future I’m sure so I’ll be able to catch up then (I know, there’s the iplayer… but I’m paranoid
!)
Have a good weekend there
M

Mas as their numbers grow they are gradually moving up country so don’t be surprised if you do one day.
Frost and frozen water is nice to look at in photos!
I sympathise as it was often the same for me when I worked full time. There are usually repeats, and as you say DVDs and the iplayer.
Thanks, you too! Cheers.

Hi Flighty
I will be watching Wild Scilly, I enjoy watching an island parish, my sister in law has spent her holidays on Scilly, visiting some of the islands, and told me of the lovely scenery and wildlife. There is also a book out, called a year on Scilly that I am going to look at,
Have a lovely weekend,
Joan

Joan hello! I keep forgetting to watch An Island Parish, so I’ll have to look out for when it’s repeated. I used to work with someone who went on holiday there every year. It certainly is an enchanting place.
Enjoy the book. As I work in a bookshop so I’ll have to order one for stock so I can have a look at it as well!
Thanks, you too!
