Flighty’s plot

Marking time !

December 7, 2007 · 14 Comments

Thankfully after a pretty wet and windy week today has been sunny, although breezy and cool.

I made the most of it this morning and went to plant the three roses that I’d received earlier in the week. My only company whilst doing that was the robin, and a blue tit helping itself to seeds from one of my bird feeders.

Last week I found a wooden chair that had been dumped. I took it home, checked it over, cleaned it up then measured it to see if it would fit in the shed. I’m happy to say that it does, just, and is a lot better than a plastic one!

I noticed that the grass I sowed around the pond is starting to grow. Something obviously uses it as I keep finding a couple of the stones either moved or out on the ground.

That’s about it for the next few months except to walk round the plot a couple of times a week to check that all is okay, top up the bird feeders and keep the pond ice free.

Now where are those seed catalogues!

I didn’t do my usual Thursday entry yesterday as there are no notable wildlife programmes on terrestrial TV next week.

Have a good weekend!

Enjoy those seed catalogues – it’s always a nice feeling browsing through them. Although it is hard to resist buying far too many! Have a good weekend.

Ellie hello. I will – isn’t it just! I know as I’ve a long list which I keep trying to trim but end up adding to it!
    Thanks, you too.

Hi Flighty, weather is atrocious yet again down here on the south coast, wet and windy. The other day J lopped off branches from the yew tree which we have in the garden, we have crammed it all in the back of J’s van and we hope to get it to the tip shortly, although we will have to brave the elements for the second time today. I hope we are still going to hear allotment news from you over the winter period, I am sure you will find something to report on. I don’t really peruse through the seed catalogues until late Jan/early Feb, I want to grow more everlasting flowers on my patch this year and give up on some of the vegetables, I really haven’t got enough space to do everything. Let us know whether you are going to try anything different on the allotment next year? x

Well that was a nice little catch up on your week! Well done on saving the chair! I’m sure it will be perfect. A nice old cusion and you will be set! Imagine the bird watching you could do in there! Our shed doubles as a hide. Perfect for catching animals and birds when they think they are alone. Like Louise, the weather is pretty yukky here today but on top of the rain we have snow! Thankfuly not able to lay as it’s too wet.
I found this for you too!

Louise hello! It’s been a dire day here, and everywhere else by the look of it.
Yes I will still be doing Plot 124 entries through the winter, although perhaps not every week. I’m planning on a mix of easy to grow, sow and forget annuals along with some more unusual plants. xx

Daffy hello! The chair was a lucky find and I’ll be making good use of it next summer!
Snow! Nice to look at but you’re more than welcome to it thanks.
The links are much appreciated. You too! xx

Morning Flighty, still wet ‘n windy, this bleak weather is really starting to annoy me, you can’t even get to the rubbish or compost bin without getting saturated! I hope you are managing to enjoy your Sunday. I really pray for better weather soon, my patch is looking very tatty! x

Hello Louise! The forecast is for drier, but colder, weather during the week. I was at the bookshop for a few hours this morning, and will spend the rest of the day reading and watching TV.
I think that most peoples patches look a bit tatty at this time of year! xx

I love a good chair-rescue! Sometimes the best pieces are ‘found’ pieces.

Nikki it was most fortuitous! The chair provides shelf space in the shed, it’s much better than a plastic one and, of course, didn’t cost anything. A real bargain find!

I quite agree – plastic chairs are inevitable in some cases, but they just don’t age well at all ;-) Our weather forecast this week is sunny, somewhat windy, and between 50-60F (10-16C).

Nikki if I had bought a plastic one then it would have been green, not white. I was thinking about buying a directors, or tennis, chair but not at this price! http://www.the-picnic-basket.co.uk/productfamily.php/family__1841__Southsea+Directors+Chair++and++Tennis+Chair
    Lucky you with the weather.

Ooh, any mention of gardens now – we may be moving to a property in Hampstead Garden Suburb with a garden! You’re the first person to hear that I am getting a bit excited about it. I have no green thumb like Nikki, but I appreciate a good selection of herbs at the very least – flowers are not a priority as the flat is on the first floor so the garden is kind of round the corner and out of sight.

Olivia that sounds like good news, and definitely something for you to look forward to next year. xx
